
Hungarian Pörkölt (Hearty Stew) 🇭🇺
📝 Ingredients:
- 500 g (1 lb) beef, pork, or chicken, cut into cubes
- 2 tbsp lard or oil
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
- 2–3 tomatoes, chopped (or 1 tbsp tomato paste)
- 1–2 bell peppers, chopped
- 1–2 cups water or broth
- Salt and pepper to taste

🥣 Instructions:
- Heat lard or oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add onions and cook until soft and translucent.
- Stir in garlic and paprika (remove from heat briefly to avoid burning paprika).
- Add meat and brown on all sides.
- Add caraway seeds, salt, and pepper.
- Mix in tomatoes and bell peppers.
- Pour in a little water or broth, just enough to cover the meat.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1.5–2 hours until the meat is tender and sauce thickened.
- Adjust seasoning before serving.
