Hungarian Meatballs (Húsgombóc)

Ingredients:

  • 500 g (1 lb) ground pork or pork + beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 slice bread or 2 tbsp breadcrumbs, soaked in milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 2 tbsp oil

For the sauce (optional):

  • 1 tbsp oil or butter
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 500 ml (2 cups) broth
  • 100 ml (½ cup) sour cream

Instructions:

  1. Mix meat, onion, garlic, soaked bread, egg, salt, pepper, paprika, and parsley.
  2. Shape into small meatballs.
  3. Heat oil and brown meatballs on all sides.

Optional Sauce:
4. In another pan, heat oil/butter, add flour and paprika, stir briefly.
5. Add broth slowly, stirring until smooth.
6. Add sour cream and mix well.
7. Add meatballs to sauce and simmer 10–15 minutes.

Serve hot with potatoes, rice, or bread.
