Hungarian Kifli

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg yolk (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm milk; let sit 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a bowl mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg.
  3. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover and let rise 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Divide dough into portions and roll into triangles.
  6. Roll each triangle from the wide end to form a crescent shape.
  7. Place on a baking sheet and brush with egg yolk.
  8. Bake at 375°F / 190°C for 15–18 minutes until golden.
