Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ tsp dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let stand 5–10 minutes.
  2. Add butter, egg, salt, and flour. Mix into a soft dough.
  3. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover and let rise 1 hour.
  5. Divide dough into 3 ropes and braid them together.
  6. Place on baking tray and let rise 30 minutes.
  7. Brush with egg wash.
  8. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
