Ingredients

  • 300 g dried beans (soaked overnight) or 2 cans beans
  • 400 g beef (cut into cubes)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 1½ tbsp Hungarian paprika
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 carrots (sliced)
  • 2 potatoes (cubed)
  • 1 bell pepper (chopped)
  • 1 tomato (chopped) or 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1–1.2 L water or broth

  1. Heat oil and sauté onion until soft.
  2. Add paprika and stir quickly.
  3. Add beef and cook until lightly browned.

  6. Simmer 60–90 minutes until meat and beans are tender.
