Hungarian Apple Pie (Almás Pite) 🇭🇺

Ingredients

For the dough

  • 400 g (3 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 200 g (1 cup) butter, softened
  • 120 g (½ cup) sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the filling

  • 800 g (4–5 cups) apples, peeled and grated
  • 80 g (⅓ cup) sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs (to absorb juice)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

For topping

  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a bowl mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add butter, eggs, and vanilla, knead into a smooth dough.
  4. Divide dough into two parts.
