Hungarian Sertéspörkölt (Pork Stew)

🧾 Ingredients:

  • 800 g pork (shoulder or stew meat), cubed
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 1 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp hot paprika (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tomato, chopped (or 2 tbsp tomato paste)
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
  • Water or broth as needed

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Heat oil or lard in a pot and sauté onions until soft and golden.
  2. Remove from heat, add paprika, and stir quickly.
  3. Add the pork and mix well to coat with the onion-paprika base.
  4. Return to heat, add garlic, tomato, and green pepper.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and caraway seeds.
  6. Add a little water or broth, cover, and simmer on low heat.
  7. Cook for about 60–90 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the meat is tender and the sauce thickens.
  8. Adjust seasoning if needed.
