
Ingredients (serves 4–6):
- 500 g (1 lb) beef, pork, or chicken, cut into cubes
- 2 tbsp lard or oil
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- 1–2 tomatoes, chopped or 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 1–1.5 cups water or broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: caraway seeds or hot paprika for extra flavor

Instructions:
- Prepare the base:
- Heat lard or oil in a large pot. Sauté onions until translucent, then add garlic and cook 1 minute.
- Remove from heat briefly and stir in paprika to avoid burning.
- Cook the meat:
- Add meat cubes and brown lightly on all sides.
- Add vegetables and liquid:
- Stir in tomatoes (or tomato paste) and bell pepper. Add water or broth just enough to cover the meat.
- Simmer:
- Cover and simmer gently for 1–1.5 hours, stirring occasionally, until meat is tender and sauce thickens.
- Season and serve:
- Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices. Serve hot with noodles, potatoes, or bread.
