Step 1 โ Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 325ยฐF (160ยฐC) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2 โ Cream the Butter and Sugar
In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth, creamy, and pale.
Step 3 โ Add Vanilla
Mix in the vanilla extract and a small pinch of salt.
Step 4 โ Add the Flour
Gently add the flour and mix until the dough comes together.
Tip: If the dough seems crumbly, keep mixing โ it will come together.
Step 5 โ Shape the Cookies
Roll the dough into small balls or gently flatten into rounds.
You can also press the dough into a baking pan and slice after baking.
Step 6 โ Bake
Bake for 12โ15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Do not overbake โ shortbread should stay pale and soft.
Step 7 โ Cool and Serve
Let the cookies cool completely โ this is when they become perfectly tender and melt-in-your-mouth.
