- 1 kg freshwater fish (carp is traditional, cut into pieces)
- 1 large onion (finely chopped)
- 2 tbsp oil or lard
- 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 tsp hot paprika (optional, for spice)
- 1 tomato (chopped) or 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 green pepper (chopped)
- Salt (to taste)
- 1–1.2 liters water

👩‍🍳 Instructions:
- Prepare the base:
In a large pot, heat oil and sauté the chopped onion until soft. - Remove from heat and stir in paprika quickly to avoid burning.
- Add ingredients:
Add fish pieces, tomato, and green pepper. - Pour in water and add salt.
- Cook:
Bring to a boil, then simmer gently for about 30–40 minutes. - Do not stir too much—shake the pot gently instead to keep fish intact.
