🇭🇺 Hungarian Chicken Paprikash

📝 Ingredients

  • 1 kg (2–2.5 lbs) chicken (thighs or drumsticks)
  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1 tomato, chopped (or 1 tbsp tomato paste)
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 1 cup chicken broth or water
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 tbsp flour

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pot and cook onions until soft and golden.
  2. Add garlic, remove from heat, and stir in paprika.
  3. Add chicken pieces and coat well.
  4. Return to heat and cook for a few minutes.
  5. Add tomato, bell pepper, salt, and pepper.
  6. Pour in broth, cover, and simmer for 35–45 minutes until chicken is tender.
  7. Mix sour cream with flour, then stir into the sauce.
  8. Simmer a few more minutes until thick and creamy.

🍽️ Serving

Serve hot with nokedli (Hungarian dumplings) or noodles.
