🇭🇺 Hungarian Kifli Cookies (Vanilla Crescent Cookies)

📝 Ingredients

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 200 g unsalted butter (softened)
  • 100 g ground walnuts (or almonds)
  • 80 g powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For Coating:

  • 100 g powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tsp vanilla sugar (or extra vanilla extract mixed in sugar)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make the Dough

  1. In a bowl, mix butter and powdered sugar until creamy.
  2. Add vanilla extract and salt.
  3. Mix in ground walnuts.
  4. Gradually add flour and knead into a soft dough.

👉 Wrap and chill for 30–60 minutes.


2. Shape the Kifli

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Take small pieces of dough and roll into little logs.
  3. Shape into crescents (half-moon shapes).
  4. Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

3. Bake

  • Bake for 10–12 minutes
  • Cookies should stay pale, just lightly golden on the bottom

4. Coat in Sugar

  • While still warm, gently roll cookies in vanilla powdered sugar
  • Let cool completely
